Indiana Baseball's Devin Taylor Wins Big Ten Freshman of the Year, Six Other Hoosiers Honored
OMAHA, Neb. — Freshman outfielder Devin Taylor highlights Indiana baseball's awards as he won the Big Ten Freshman of the Year honor as the third Hoosier to do so in program history. Six other Hoosiers earned postseason accolades as well.
Taylor is also just the second Hoosier rookie to earn All-Big Ten first team and the first position player with the honor. Taylor started 44-of-48 games and hit .328 ranking third on the team out of the starters. Fielding, he totaled 55 putouts on the season.
He led all Big Ten freshman in batting average, OPS (1.146), runs scored (58), home runs (16), RBIs (56), total bases (121), slugging percentage (.695), walks (34) and on-base percentage (.451). Taylor's 16 homers rank third all time by a Big Ten freshman and is No. 2 in Hoosier freshman history behind Carter Mathison's 22 dingers in 2022.
Hoosier sophomore relief pitcher Ryan Kraft also earned First Team All-Big Ten honors leading all Big Ten pitchers in ERA with a 2.51 mark across 19 games. Senior shortstop Phillip Glasser, sophomore pitcher Luke Sinnard and sophomore catcher Brock Tibbitts earned second team honors.
Glasser accumulated a team-high 28 multi-hit games, Sinnard led the conference with 104 strikeouts and Tibbitts paced the Hoosiers with a .387 batting average.
Sophomore third baseman Josh Pyne landed on the third team, and freshman infielder Tyler Cerny was featured on the freshman team.
