Big Ten Roundup (July 16): Joe Wieskamp Scores 27 for Raptors; B1G Coaches on Dodd Watch List

Former Iowa Hawkeye basketball player Joe Wieskamp scored 27 points for the Toronto Raptors in a 108-101 Summer League win over Trayce Jackson-Davis and the Golden State Warriors. Wieskamp played for Iowa and head coach Fran McCaffery for three seasons from 2019-21.
The 2023 preseason watch list for The Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year award was announced on Thursday, and five Big Ten coaches — Michigan's Jim Harbaugh, Ohio State's Ryan Day, Michigan State's Mel Tucker, Iowa's Kirk Ferentz and Minnesota's P.J. Fleck — were listed among the 21 preseason candidates.

Wieskamp Scores 27
The Toronto Raptors were one of the worst-spaced, worst 3-point shooting teams in the NBA last year – they finished 28th in team 3-point percentage and 24th in 3-point attempt frequency – but Joe Wieskamp might be just the guy to help them.
The third-year forward out of Iowa shot the lights out on Saturday night, posting a game-high 27 points on 8-for-11 shooting from the field, 3-for-6 shooting from the 3-point line and a perfect 8-for-8 night from the free throw line.

Five Big Ten Coaches on Dodd Watch List
The prestigious Dodd Trophy is awarded each year to, "the head coach of a team who enjoys success on the gridiron, while also stressing the importance of scholarship, leadership and integrity – the three pillars of legendary coach Bobby Dodd's coaching philosophy," according to the official release from the Peach Bowl, Inc., that manages the Dodd Trophy.
In total, 21 head coaches were announced to the 2023 Dodd preseason watch list on Thursday, including Michigan's Jim Harbaugh, Ohio State's Ryan Day, Michigan State's Mel Tucker, Iowa's Kirk Ferentz and Minnesota's P.J. Fleck.

The Big Ten's five representatives is tied for the most from any conference, along with five representatives from the ACC and from the Big 12.
Former Northwestern head coach Pat Fitzgerald is the Big Ten's most recent winner of the Dodd Trophy, earning the award in 2020. Fitzgerald was fired on Monday after 17 years spent coaching Northwestern following the revelation of further details on hazing that occurred within the football program.
