Former Indiana Basketball Player Jerome Hunter Out Indefinitely With Medical Issue
Xavier men's basketball announced on Tuesday that senior forward Jerome Hunter will be out indefinitely with an undisclosed medical issue. Hunter played for the Indiana Hoosiers for two seasons from 2019-2021 under former head coach Archie Miller.
"Jerome Hunter is dealing with a medical issue that has sidelined him from all on-court basketball activities," the Xavier men's basketball team Twitter account wrote in a post. "Our medical team is working with Jerome to navigate a path for his return to full health. His timeline for a return to basketball will be established at a later time."
Miller also quote tweeted the team's original announcement, saying that both he and the entire Xavier basketball team are supporting Hunter and his recovery.
Hunter transferred to Xavier before the 2021-22 college basketball season to play for former coach Travis Steele. Xavier fired Steele after going 19-13, then went on to win the 2022 NIT. Xavier hired Archie's brother, Sean Miller, for the 2022-23 season, and the Musketeers made a run to the the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament as a 3-seed.
Once a four-star recruit out of an Ohio high school powerhouse Pickerington North, Hunter played 55 games for Indiana over the course of two seasons and started in four his sophomore year. Hunter averaged 3.8 points per game as a freshman and 6.3 per game as a sophomore.
While Hunter's scoring average has not drastically improved during his time spent at Xavier – he scored 4.1 points per game as a junior and 7.8 points per game as a senior – he has seen playing time on the court much more often than he did in Bloomington. In total, Hunter played 920 career minutes as an Indiana Hoosier, and in the past two seasons with Xavier, he has played 1,304 minutes.
Hunter still has one year of eligibility left due to the Covid.
