Hood-Schifino Scores 15 in Lakers' Summer Debut, But Struggles From Deep
Former Indiana standout Jalen Hood-Schifino got his first taste of NBA action on Monday night, scoring 15 points with five rebounds and four assists in the Los Angeles Lakers' summer league loss to the Miami Heat in Sacramento, Calif.
Hood-Schifino, who was drafted No. 17 overall by the Lakers after one year at Indiana, struggled to get shots to fall early, but was much better in the second half. He finished 6-for-19 from the field in 29 minutes, but missed all five three-point attempts.
Miami led throughout and won, 107-90. Former Michigan State star Max Christie led the Lakers with 17 points.
Hood-Schifino showed a lot of good things in running the Lakers' offense, attacking the basket often and beating defenders off the dribble constantly. He also played well defensively.
Los Angeles plays again on Wednesday night in Sacramento before heading south to the Las Vegas Summer League, where they will play a a minimum of five games from July 7-17.
Hood-Schifino's first game in Las Vegas will be against former Indiana teammate Trayce Jackson-Davis and the Golden State Warriors on Friday night.

The Las Vegas Summer League is the big event of the offseason, with all 30 teams descending on Las Vegas. Every team plays at least five games, with the tournament semifinals on July 16 and the championship game on July 17. For the complete schedule of games in Las Vegas, CLICK HERE
Hood-Schifino was the Big Ten Freshman of the Year at Indiana. He was there just one year, and averaged 13.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game. His breakout performance came at Purdue in February, when he scored 35 points in Indiana's upset of their bitter in-state rivals. Indiana swept Purdue last season.
