Grace Berger's Playing Time Ahead of Indiana Fever Roster Cuts on May 18
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Former Indiana women's basketball guard Grace Berger is close to potentially making the final 12-player roster cut for the WNBA's Indiana Fever on Thursday, May 18.
The 6-foot Louisville, Ky. native was selected in the first round of the 2023 WNBA Draft as the seventh overall pick and has already been making appearances for the Indiana Fever. Whether it's throwing the first pitch at an Indianapolis Indians baseball game or greeting fans at Indy 500 Festival Kids Day, the Circle City is loving the former Hoosier as part of the Fever according to social media.
It's more than likely Berger will be just fine making the team, but it will officially be announced come 5 p.m. ET on Thursday. In the two preseason contests, Berger has played a combined 28:51 minutes.
In last Sunday's May 7 matchup versus the Chicago Sky, Berger clocked in 22:15 minutes, which was the second most minutes played on the team behind guard Lexie Hull. In the 81-56 loss, Berger totaled four points, four rebounds, two steals and one block while shooting 50 percent from the floor.
Six days later, the Fever won their first preseason game 90-83 over the Dallas Wings at home. Berger only clocked 6:36 minutes with no stats to show but at least wasn't listed as DNP or 'did not play' like four other teammates including fellow Big Ten graduate Taylor Mikesell.
Following final roster cuts on Thursday, the Fever will play the Connecticut Sun at home on Friday at 7 p.m. ET for the first regular season game followed by a road game to face the New York Liberty two days later.
It's looking good for Berger to be an official WNBA star, but Hoosiers will have to wait to celebrate when coach Christie Sides and the staff make the final decision this week.
