Indiana Women's Basketball Gets its Own Day After Record-Breaking Season
BLOOMINGTON, Ind — April 5 in Monroe County will no longer be just another spring day. It's now IU Women's Basketball Day made official by the Monroe County Board of Commissioners Penny Githens, Julie Thomas and Lee Jones.
Moren and her staff along with graduate student guard Grace Berger and senior forward Mackenzie Holmes attended the signing, sporting their gray warmups and regular season champs white tee-shirts.
This season, the Hoosiers won their first Big Ten regular season title in 40 years posting a 16-2 conference record. Overall, Indiana finished 28-4 and earned the program's first NCAA Tournament one-seed in program history.
Holmes and Berger in attendance of the April 5 signing both had stellar seasons as Berger ended her Indiana career as an AP All-American honorable mention and on First-Team All-Big Ten team.
With one more year of eligibility left, Holmes wrapped up her senior season as an AP First-Team All-American, First-Team All-Big Ten, Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year and as a top five finalist for the John R. Wooden Award given annually to the most outstanding college women's basketball player.
Hoosier head coach Teri Moren also raked in plenty of awards to add to her growing collection. She became the all-time winningest coach in program history with her 189th win that came on the road versus Illinois on Jan. 18.
She was later awarded her second Big Ten Coach of the Year award followed by AP Coach of the Year, which she accepted during a ceremony in Dallas, Texas.
April 5 may be the official day of celebrating Indiana women's basketball in Monroe County, but the truth is the program and its support system has been celebrating all season long.
