Indiana Women's Basketball Traded Ranks With Ohio State, Set to Play Buckeyes Again

Indiana women's basketball beat Ohio State earlier this season when the Buckeyes had a two in front of their name. Now, that rank belongs to Indiana as the Hoosiers will head to Columbus Monday for a chance to sweep the 13th best team in the country this regular season.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Monday evening, Indiana women's basketball will visit No. 13 Ohio State in Columbus for the Hoosiers' second to last road game of the season.

The No. 2 Hoosiers last saw the Buckeyes at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall on Jan. 26 when Indiana shut down the then-No. 2 team in the nation 78-65. Four players scored in double figures led by senior forward Mackenzie Holmes, who put up 26 as the Hoosiers shot 45.2 percent from the field compared to the Buckeyes' 38.1 percent.

Three days prior, Ohio State lost to Iowa. Following its Indiana defeat, the Buckeyes fell to Purdue three days later.

They got back on track with a win over Wisconsin, but came up short against Maryland on Feb. 5. Ohio State is now coming off a big 93-63 win over a young Minnesota team at home on Wednesday.

They are led by senior guard Taylor Mikesell averaging 17.9 points per game as one of six Buckeyes in double figures including senior guard Jacy Sheldon, who made her return for the Maryland loss after being out with a lower leg injury since Nov. 30. In the Buckeyes' loss to the Terrapins, Sheldon tallied five points and then did not play the next game versus Minnesota.

In the last meeting versus Indiana, Mikesell totaled 15 points while freshman forward Cotie McMahon led with 21 points and three blocks.

Meanwhile, Indiana is now the leader in the Big Ten standings as Holmes leads with team with 22.1 points per game as one of four Hoosiers in double-figure scoring. She also crashes the boards with 7.6 rebounds per contest.

The regular season is quickly coming to a close as Indiana just has Ohio State, Michigan, Purdue and Iowa left before Big Ten tournament play on March 1. Indiana head coach Teri Moren said the Big Ten is the best conference in the country this season.

Can Indiana get through the foes it has seen before this season to finish out strong before tournament play?
