LIVE BLOG: Follow Indiana's Basketball Game Against Morehead State in Real Time
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana is back in action Tuesday night against the Morehead State Eagles at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET on Big Ten Network.
The Hoosiers are coming off a 75-71 loss to No. 2 Kansas on Saturday, while Morehead State defeated St. Mary of the Woods 102-33 on Thursday. The Eagles enter the game 8-3 and were the preseason pick to win the Ohio Valley Conference.
Welcome to our live blog, where we'll share updates, highlights and thoughts on Tuesday's game live from press row at Assembly Hall.
8:36 p.m. – Lathon got the matchup he likely preferred after Reneau switched onto him after a screen, but Reneau was able to get a finger on Lathon's shot to deflect it short. Indiana escapes with a 69-68 win.
8:31 p.m. – Mgbako got a wide-open three after a pass from Galloway coming off a screen. He missed, but Reneau grabbed the offensive rebound and was fouled on the put back. Reneau missed both free throws, then Morehead State called a timeout trailing 69-68 with 24.7 seconds left. They can hold for the last shot.
8:29 p.m. – Woodson calls timeout with 41.3 seconds remaining. Indiana leads 69-68 and will have 22 seconds on the shot clock. I'd imagine Woodson calls for a ball screen for Galloway to get the possession going.
8:28 p.m. – Free throws from Mgbako and Walker give IU a 69-66 lead with a minute to play.
8:25 p.m. – Thomas ties it up at 66-66 with a tough layup through traffic, two minutes remaining.
8:23 p.m. – Trey Galloway drills a three from the right wing, and Indiana has its first lead since 16-15 with 11:26 left in the first half. Pretty incredible comeback for and IU team that looked dead about seven minutes ago.
8:20 p.m. – IU trails 64-62 at the under-4 timeout. Galloway's layup was blocked before the timeout, so IU will have the ball after the break. Morehead State hasn't scored since 8:58, making for a 13-0 Indiana run.
8:17 p.m. – Reneau makes a tough layup, continuing IU's 10-0 run. IU trails by five with 4:30 to play.
8:12 p.m. – Ware gets a putback dunk after a Galloway's miss, then Mgbako makes a pair of free throws on the following possession. Morehead State's lead is down to seven points with 6:30.
8:08 p.m. – Walker puts back a Mgbako miss, and the lead is down to 11 with 7:30 to play. The crowd is trying to will Indiana back into this one.
8:04 p.m. – Malik Reneau just picked up his fourth foul, running into Lathon as he made a three. IU trails by 15 points now with 9:30 to play.
8:03 p.m. – Not sure how Gabe Cupps made it, but he threw the ball high off the glass while getting fouled. But he missed the free throw. IU is 7-for-15 at the free throw line tonight.
8:02 p.m. – Mgbako bricked a three and Banks airballed a mid-range jumper, which is a pretty accurate summation of Indiana's offense tonight.
7:55 p.m. – IU still trailing Morehead State 53-42 with 11:58 to play. Hoosiers just don't have enough perimeter players that can go get their own shot.
7:51 p.m. – Anthony Walker makes Indiana's first three of the game, answering Lathon's three. That was a big shot for Indiana, as Morehead State's lead had grown back to 11 points.
7:49 p.m. – Really tough shot from Lathon goes in over pretty solid defense from Galloway. He stepped back from long range, and now Morehead State is 7-for-21 from three, while Indiana is 0-for-6.
7:45 p.m. – Mgbako breaks his shooting slump with a deep two and a layup on back-to-back possessions. He started the game 0-for-6. Morehead State's lead is down to 42-39.
7:43 p.m. – Jordan Lathon up to 18 points now, draining a three over the long arms of Ware.
7:39 p.m. – Ware is on an 8-1 run by himself to open the second half, and Assembly Hall finally has something to cheer for. Morehead State's lead is 37-33.
7:35 p.m. – Ware starts the second half with a layup off an out of bounds play, then makes two free throws. Morehead State's lead is down to 36-29, but Reneau just picked up his third foul.
7:17 p.m. – Galloway turned it over dribbling behind his back just before the half, and it leads to a fast break dunk for Morehead State, putting an exclamation point on the first half. Several Indiana fans booing the Hoosiers going into halftime. Morehead State leads 36-25 at halftime.
7:14 p.m. – A quick 4-0 run from Galloway has breathed life into Assembly Hall for really the first time all night. A strong end to the half would ease some of the sting from the first 17 or so minutes.
7:12 p.m. – IU has certainly forced several tough shots, but they're also missing the easy ones. They're down to 31% overall, and Morehead State leads 32-21 with 2:07 left in the half. Indiana hasn't been able to get any fast break points either.
7:05 p.m. – IU off to a really rough start shooting the ball. They're 9-for-27 from the field, 0-for-6 from three and 3-for-9 at the free throw line.
7:02 p.m. – IU did well to get Mgbako an open mid-range look, but he missed it. Ricks answered with a three on the other end, and Morehead State's lead has grown to 28-21. Starters back in for IU with five minutes left in the half.
6:57 p.m. – Gunn had a good look from three, but it rimmed out. Reneau was there to clean it up, though, trimming Morehead State's lead to 23-21 at the under-8 timeout.
6:56 p.m. – Another nice out of bounds play call from Woodson, freeing CJ Gunn for an easy mid-range jumper. Lathon banked in a three on the other end. Morehead State leads 23-19 with eight minutes to go.
6:55 p.m. – Morehead State has already attempted 12 3-pointers today, but made just three. With a size disadvantage, they'll likely continue to fire away from distance. IU now 3-for-7 at the line after Banks splits.
6:53 p.m. – IU off to a 2-for-5 start at the free throw line. Minix grabs an offensive rebounds and puts it back in to give Morehead State a 17-16 lead.
6:49 p.m. – Jordan Lathon really heating up for Morehead State. He's got nine early points and just made his first three of the game. IU leads 16-15.
6:47 p.m. – Walker with another strong take to the basket, finishing through contact again. He's got six early points, but two missed free throws. Cupps and Galloway missed a couple solid looks on the previous possessions, too.
6:44 p.m. – Walker checks in the game now for Reneau, and IU runs an out of bounds play to get him a layup. He finished through a foul, but missed the and-one free throw. Lathon answered with a layup, tying the game 10-10.
6:42 p.m. – Kaleb Banks first off the bench for IU, replacing Mgbako. Galloway missed a mid-range jumper, but Banks was there to clean it up and tie the game 8-8.
6:38 p.m. – IU trails Morehead State 7-4 at the under-16 timeout. Minix made a quick cut to get positioning on Reneau, then finished through contact. He'll have an and-one free throw on the other end. IU just 1-for-5 from the field to start.
6:36 p.m. – IU a bit sloppy on offense early on. Mgbako forced a really tough shot and didn't draw rim, then Reneau turned the ball over after being double teamed inside. Morehead State leads 5-2 early on.
6:33 p.m. – Mgbako puts IU on the board with a pair of free throws, fouled on a jump shot. He's been aggressive in looking for his shot early on.
6:32 p.m. – Mgbako got a pretty good look on a corner three, but it rimmed out. Thomas answered with a three on the other end, giving Morehead State an early 3-0 lead.
6:26 p.m. – Starters remain the same for Indiana: Gabe Cupps, Trey Galloway, Mackenzie Mgbako, Malik Reneau and Kel'el Ware. For Morehead State it's Jordan Lathon, Drew Thelwell, Kalil Thomas, Riley Minix and Dieonte Miles.
5:30 p.m. – As expected, Indiana point guard Xavier Johnson is not in uniform for pregame warmups, so he'll miss a fifth consecutive game. Johnson is not wearing a walking boot, which is perhaps a sign of progress. CJ Gunn, listed questionable pregame, is in uniform and has been a full participant in warmups so far. It looks like he's gearing up to play.
