VIDEO: Grace Berger Hits the Gym With Indiana Fever
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Former Indiana women's basketball guard Grace Berger is already putting in work with the WNBA's Indiana Fever ahead of training camp. Berger was drafted in the first round as the seventh overall pick on April 10 and is the highest drafted Hoosier in program history.
Known for her midrange jump shot, the video embedded below courtesy of @IndianaFever on Twitter shows a drill where the Louisville, Ky. native has to dribble around defenders and shoot from the midrange as well as from beyond the arc.
Berger swished all three shots as one coach yelled out "really good" to the former Hoosier.
In five seasons as a Hoosier, Berger finished with 1,841 points averaging 12.4 points per game. She was often described as the heart of the program and could lead Indiana head coach Teri Moren to tears in press conferences because of her passion for the game.
Her teammates such as guard Sydney Parrish and forward Mackenzie Holmes would gush at their leader, always talking about how reliable she was at the point guard position.
Now, Berger is only a short hour drive away from her former Bloomington home and will be coached by Christie Sides, who is also in her first season with the Fever. Sides has said she values personal relationships with her players, a feat surely comforting for Berger who developed such strong bonds with Moren, who was present at the draft, and her teammates for five seasons.
Sides said training camp beginning April 30 will be tough and competitive as there are only 12 roster spots for the Fever with 18 players to choose from following the draft.. The players vying for a permanent spot will have to buy into the culture in order to be put on the bus, she said.
