Indiana Lands Oregon Transfer Outside Linebacker Anthony Jones
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana added a young talent to its defense through the transfer portal.
On May 15, Oregon outside linebacker Anthony Jones announced his decision to join coach Tom Allen and the Hoosiers. He has four years of remaining eligibility.
"100% Committed," Jones posted. "Time to go shock the country!!"
Jones, a 6-foot-4, 255-pound outside linebacker, spent his freshman year at Oregon, where he appeared in two games and maintained redshirt status. He made his college debut and first career tackle against Colorado on Nov. 5, and later appeared in the Ducks' matchup against North Carolina in the SDCCU Holiday Bowl. After entering the transfer portal, Jones held offers from Cal, Texas Tech, San Diego State and Utah State.
Out of high school, Jones flipped his commitment from Texas to Oregon and was also committed to Washington at one point during his recruitment. He joined the Ducks as a three-star recruit, ranked No. 622 in the class of 2022. This would have made him the ninth-highest rated prospect in Indiana's 2022 recruiting class, which ranked No. 25 in the nation.
Jones chose Oregon over Power 5 offers from Miami (FL), Texas, Washington, Arizona, Colorado and USC. He attended Liberty High School near Las Vegas, Nev., where he was named first-team All-Southern Nevada as an outside linebacker during his senior year. He totaled 39 tackles with 8.5 tackles and 3.5 sacks, while also hauling in six touchdown receptions and 241 total yards at a tight end as Liberty went 10-2.
Listed as an outside linebacker, Jones projects to play Indiana's bull position, a hybrid linebacker and defensive end position. Indiana also added West Virginia transfer Lanell Carr this offseason, and UCLA transfer Myles Jackson enters his second year at Indiana in 2023 playing the bull position.
