BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana quarterback Dexter Williams II entered the transfer portal on Sunday, joining Brendan Sorsby as the second quarterback to do so after Indiana fired Tom Allen on Sunday.

Williams did not play during 2023 season due a torn ACL he suffered in the 2022 season finale against Purdue. Allen said on Nov. 6 that Williams was ready to play if needed, but Indiana was committed to starting Sorsby at that point.

Williams has two years of eligibility remaining, with potential for a third if he can get a medical waiver.

Williams joined the Hoosiers as the nation's 34th ranked dual-threat quarterback out of Mount De Sales Academy in Macon, Ga. in the class of 2020. He redshirted his first year with the Hoosiers, then tore his ACL in the spring of 2021 and missed the whole 2021 season.

After Indiana benched quarterback Connor Bazelak and Jack Tuttle suffered and injury, Williams was thrust into a starting role late in the 2022 season. He appeared in four games, including a road trip to Ohio State on Nov. 12, when he completed 6-of-19 passes for 107 yards and two touchdowns.

Williams made his first-career start at Michigan State on Nov. 19. While still undeveloped as a passer, Williams' rushing ability frustrated defense in his limited playing time. The 6-foot-1, 200-pound quarterback ran for 86 yards and a touchdown, leading the Hoosiers to a 39-31 double-overtime win at Michigan State.

He earned the start the following week against Purdue, but suffered another torn ACL in the first quarter with Indiana leading 7-0. The injury occurred on a non-contact play while he was rolling out of the pocket.

Allen initially thought the injury would sideline Williams for the entire 2023 season, but he was able to practice as early as fall camp in August. Williams dressed for warmups in every game, and he was taken off the injury report before Indiana's game at Penn State on Oct. 28.

With Sorsby and Williams in the portal, Tayven Jackson and Broc Lowry are the only scholarship quarterbacks still on Indiana's roster as of Monday morning.
