What Donaven McCulley Said After Indiana's 52-7 Loss vs Michigan
ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Indiana football wide receiver Donaven McCulley was responsible for the Hoosiers' only touchdown of the game.
However, it was not McCulley on the receiving end of the score, and rather, the former high school quarterback went back to his roots and found Jaylin Lucas for a 44-yard touchdown.
That gave Indiana a 7-0 lead early, but that vanished quickly. Michigan scored the last 52 points in the game in a dominant win for the No. 2 ranked team in the country. Here's everything McCulley said after the loss:
On how he thinks the QB rotation impacted Tayven Jackson and Brendan Sorsby:
McCulley: "I think it's really hard to get yourself in a routine, and get other guys in a routine. I'm not sure why they flip-flopped them so much, but I think it's hard to get into a routine [that way].
On how the QB rotation made it hard for himself to adjust as a receiver:
McCulley: "It wasn't really difficult for me to adjust. I was just waiting. Waiting for an opportunity, that's all. But we didn't really get to many opportunities like that."
On the double pass touchdown he threw:
McCulley: "I saw the play come in, and I was just ready for it. Wasn't too much, I just went out there and did it." (McCulley also added that the double pass trick play has been in Indiana's playbook prior to Rod Carey's promotion to offensive coordinator).
On when he knows who will be the quarterback on each drive:
McCulley: "Sometimes we're sitting on the bench [when we find out]. Sometimes we're in the huddle." (McCulley confirmed that sometimes they'll learn who is going in at quarterback as they go out onto the field).
On facing Michigan's defense:
McCulley: "I feel like we really shot ourselves in the foot in the first half. We can't come out and make a good play, and not continue to roll [like that]. We just can't continue to shoot ourselves in the foot like that."
On the mood of the offense after another bad day:
McCulley: "The offense as a whole, we're together still. There's nothing breaking us apart or anything like that. We know the situation we're in, and just trying to make it out of that situation."
