Yale Bulldogs at Kansas Jayhawks Predictions: Cruising Into The Holidays /

The Kansas Jayhawks have one last game before the holiday break, and it's against an opponent that should be a bit easier to deal with than the Hoosiers last Saturday. The Yale Bulldogs have been a pretty good program over the last decade or so, but they have yet to prove themselves this season.

Kansas will be without freshman Johnny Furphy, who has a family obligation back in Australia. Can they avoid letting Yale hang around and make this game interesting? Or will they get off to another slow start and make fans sweat heading into Christmas weekend?

Yale vs Kansas Preview

Derek Noll

Kansas will look to leave for the holiday break on a high note when the Yale Bulldogs come into town, and they should take care of things rather easily. The Bulldogs have only played one game of note, a 15 point loss to Gonzaga, with a one point loss to Vermont being another semi-notable score. They’ve beaten such prolific teams like Quinnipiac and Stony Brook while losing to Fairfield. Kansas will be without Aussie freshman Johnny Furphy but if that matters in this game, KU has bigger things to worry about. Will this be the game where Nick Timberlake finally plays well again (it’s been since the opener) or will Jamari McDowell take another step in securing meaningful minutes come conference play? Those are the storylines I’m looking at in this one, along with at least two double-doubles from KU’s big Four of Hunter Dickinson, Kevin McCullar, Dajuan Harrism and KJ Adams. The Jayhawks roll, Merry Christmas to all.

Kansas 102, Yale 67.

Derek hit on most of the important pieces of this one, so I’ll just tack on that I’m hoping this is a Jamari McDowell game. KU needs Timberlake to be better, yes, but the energy and intensity McDowell offers is quite useful for this group now. As for what it takes to win, just avoid the sleepy start that the Jayhawks had in their last game versus an Ivy League foe, last year’s slim win over Harvard. This is a good Yale team, but a focused KU squad should still handle its business.

Kansas 80, Yale 61.

There aren’t many things that Yale does well that Kansas isn’t prepared to deal with. Yale is awful from inside the arc, while Kansas is fantastic at 2-point defense. Kansas doesn’t force many turnovers, but neither does Yale. Neither team is any good on the offensive glass. But Kansas is good pretty much everywhere else, and there is no reason to think that this will be particularly close. And there should be plenty of opportunities for bench players to get some big minutes.

Kansas 92, Yale 63.
