UPDATE: Shortly after publication of this article, Jalon Daniels was named to the Davey O'Brien Great 8 list for the second straight week. And then, he was named to the Manning Award Stars list for the second straight week.

It's only Week 3, but the Kansas Jayhawks have now had three different players earn recognition with a Big 12 Conference Player of the Week award. In Week 1, it was linebacker Lonnie Phelps for his 3-sack performance against Tennessee Tech. In Week 2, it was cornerback Cobee Bryant for his electric performance against West Virginia. This week, it's Jalon Daniels earning Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week for his 5 touchdown performance against the Houston Cougars.

It is the first Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week honor for Daniels and the first for a Kansas player since October 26, 2019, when quarterback Carter Stanley won it for his dazzling 415 yard, 3 passing touchdown and 1 rushing touchdown performance to beat the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

This wasn't the first big honor for Daniels this week, as on Sunday he was named Walter Camp National FBS Offensive Player of the Week, the first time that award has ever been given to a Jayhawk. The Walter Camp Football Foundation has been honoring one offensive and one defensive player for their performances each week for the last 19 seasons, including this one. The award is voted on by a panel of national media members.

And Daniels has previously been recognized this season for his performances. After he led the Jayhawks to an overtime victory in Morgantown, Daniels was named as one of the Manning Award Stars of the Week, named to the Davey O'Brien Great 8 list and added to the Midseason Watch List for the Davey O'Brien Award. He was also named to both the Davey O'Brien list and the Manning Award Stars list for his performance this week against Houston.

The Jayhawks have been playing well enough so far this season to earn recognition each of the first three weeks of the season. If they continue at their current pace, we will be talking about these types of awards frequently.
