K-Uniform Report, Middle Four Games - 44 Days Until Kansas Football
During the 100 days leading up to Kansas football, we are previewing and predicting the uniform choices for KU, evenly dividing out the schedule and picking apart what the Jayhawks might wear, what they should wear, and what would make the “best looking game” from an aesthetic standpoint. We’ve already spouted off about what they should wear in the opening four matches, and you can find that article by clicking the link. Kansas then introduced a clean new set of blue and white-centric uniforms, and we analyzed the new threads here.
Today, we go through the next four games of the 2023 Kansas football schedule as the Jayhawks get deep into conference play, but with a bit of a difference. I was using a format of what KU should wear and what they would most likely wear. Sometimes these were vastly different and, if you’ve read my uniform analysis with any regularity, you’ll know that I hedge toward as much tradition as possible. The new uniforms allow for tradition, and that’s a great thing.
I’m fine with that, but it can get a bit monotonous from an analysis perspective, and not too exciting for an article like this. So for these four games, I’ll add in what I thought they’d wear prior to the new uniform unveiling, just to give you a sense of what I thought might be going through the minds of those that choose what the gridiron Jayhawks wear.
Game Five: September 30 at Texas
Going into the last ever Big XII game against Texas, Kansas has to ask itself one question. How do we want to look when the highlights of our inevitable win are plastered all over social and standard media? The answer: as much like the Kansas Jayhawks as possible. That means blue. As much blue as you can wear on the road.
What they should wear: Blue helmet, white jersey, blue pants
What they will wear: Blue helmet, white jersey, white pants
What they might’ve worn: KU liked to wear red pants with white above and they might’ve done that at Texas.
Texas is wearing a burnt orange jersey with a white helmet and white pants. We know this. More blue on the field would be music to my eyes.
Game Six: October 7 v Central Florida
Before the new uniforms were announced, I thought that this game was a true wildcard for KU, uniform wise. You’ve got a brand new conference foe that you should beat at home, and you’ve got so many interesting uniform combinations to try out. They’ll probably wear all blue, which makes me happy.
What they could wear: White helmet, blue jersey, white pants
What they will wear: All blue
What they might’ve worn: White helmet, blue jersey, red pants
The prevailing thought is that the UCF Knights will wear white from the neck down, although they’ve been known to wear black pants on the road on occasion. And the lid? They have a white, a gold, a black, and a pewter grey that they’ve worn in the recent past. Personally, I want them to look as much like the New Orleans Saints as possible so that means gold, white, gold. Do it!
Game Seven: October 14 at Oklahoma State
When originally looking at the schedule, I wanted this to be the game where KU goes all white. I think this is the perfect time to do it, although with the new uniforms, they’ll almost certainly do it before this game as well. Oklahoma State has a great color combination that would clash nicely with the icy all whites and make for a very nice game to look at from an aesthetic point of view.
What they could wear: Blue helmet, white jersey, white pants
What they will wear: All white
What they might’ve worn: All white or something with too much red
If Kansas is wearing all white, the Cowboys should go with all orange. I mean, that amazing color is sitting right there, and they just don’t do it enough. Come on OSU, be brave. All orange everything.
Game Eight: October 28 v Oklahoma (Homecoming)
Every single new 2023 signing announcement that Kansas issued on their social media features the future (now current) Jayhawk wearing their sharp powder blue alternate uniforms. They wore them on homecoming two seasons ago, so this is an appropriate time to break them out again and there were some hints on twitter that KU is keeping these unis as an alternate. Plus, KU will want to look sharp when they beat Oklahoma in the last ever game against them in Big XII play.
What they could wear: Blue helmet, powder blue jersey, white pants
What they will wear: Blue helmet, powder blue jersey, blue pants
What they might’ve worn: I still think they were going powder blue regardless of the new uniform set.
We know what the Sooners will wear, so this uniform matchup is all about how KU looks.
We’ll have the final four games as the countdown gets closer to opening night.
