Jackson State LB Transfer Jurriente Davis Takes Official Visit to Kentucky
As Kentucky football nears the end of spring practice, the second transfer portal window is set to open. It'll much shorter than the main window that came following the end of the 2022 season, running from just April 15-30.
Head coach Mark Stoops told reporters on Wednesday that the Wildcats had some room to "poke around" the portal, and though the portal is yet to open, there's already a name that's linked to UK:
Jurriente Davis, a junior linebacker transfer out of Jackson State, just finished up an official visit to Lexington:
Davis still has two years of eligibility remaining, though his next school will be his fourth destination as a college football player. Originally heading to Hutchinson Community College in Kansas, the Greensboro, N.C. native first moved to Middle Tennessee State in 2021, then Jackson State to play for then-head coach Deion Sanders a season ago.
At MTSU, the 6-foot, 231-pounder managed 71 tackles, three sacks and a pair of pass deflections. He collected 14 tackles in a blowout loss to Liberty, a career-high. Under Sanders at JSU, Davis had 58 tackles including 7.5 TFL, a sack, a forced fumble, two quarterback hurries and a pass breakup.
Kentucky is looking to place a bulk of talent in the linebacker room, as veteran starters DeAndre Square, Jacquez Jones and Jordan Wright have all departed, looking to start careers in the NFL. Defensive coordinator Brad White said during the spring that finding reliable depth behind 2023 starters Trevin Wallace and D'Eryk Jackson was a necessity, calling upon the backups to fill the holes.
Bringing in Davis could serve as a solution in the middle of the park. Kentucky brought in seven transfers from the main portal window, most of whom are set to make immediate impacts, such as QB Devin Leary (NC State), RB Ray Davis (Vanderbilt), LT Marques Cox (Northern Illinois), DL Keeshawn Silver (North Carolina) and CB JQ Hardaway (Cincinnati).
