Former Michigan Center Hunter Dickinson to Transfer to Kansas
After keeping every single college basketball insider, reporter and personality in the dark as he worked through his gargantuan decision, Michigan transfer Hunter Dickinson has finally come to a conclusion.
The 7-foot-1 center announced on Thursday afternoon that he is taking his talents to Lawrence and is transferring to Kansas, choosing the Jayhawks over Kentucky, Villanova and Maryland.
Dickinson took visits to Kentucky, Kansas, Villanova, Maryland and Georgetown, all while Michigan stood on the side and did what it could to try and bring the former All-American back to Ann Arbor.
After unofficially visiting UK in high school, Dickinson eventually chose Michigan, where he became one of the most high-profile forwards in the country. He played 94 games in maize and blue, averaging 17.2 points and 8.4 rebounds-per-game. He faced off against Kentucky in the Basketball Hall of Fame London Showcase on Dec. 4 in England, totaling 23 points, nine boards and three blocks in a loss.
The Wildcats were in consistent contact with Dickinson since he entered the portal, including head coach John Calipari flying to Ann Arbor for a private meeting, along with the official visit in Lexington, which was held on April 24. Dickinson had previously eluded on his podcast that coming to UK would be contingent on what superstar forward Oscar Tshiebwe — who's name is currently in the NBA draft waters — opted to do, whether it be go pro or return to Lexington for a third season.
Dickinson is the biggest name to have ever entered the portal, and his journey to reaching a decision had the entire college basketball world hooked. He'll now head from the Big Ten to the Big 12 in hopes of continuing Kansas' dominance.
