Kentucky basketball's loss to UNC Wilmington hurt the team's NET ranking

Kentucky's loss to UNC Wilmington hurt the team's NET ranking.

The NET rankings came out, which rank teams based on team value index, net efficiency, winning percentage, adjusted win percentage, and scoring margin.

Wins are put into quads from quads 1-4. The NET rankings value road wins and bump you hard for home losses.

This is why Kentucky's home loss to the UNC Wilmington Seahawks hurt the team so badly in the NET rankings.

After the 6-2 start, the Cats ended up 45th in the first NET rankings, with the recent loss hurting the Cats badly.

Let's break down Kentucky's record by quadrant.

Quad 1: 0-1

Quad 2: 1-0

Quad 3: 1-1

Quad: 4-0

This shows how important it is to win games at home against teams like UNC Wilmington, but the funny thing is wins don't help a ton, but losses hurt badly to non-power six teams.

Kentucky will play Penn next, who is ranked 185th in these rankings currently, but with this being a road game, it will help the Cats.

Kentucky still has plenty of opportunities to win Quad one and two games, but they can't drop any more games like they did against UNC Wilmington, or it could really hurt their seeding.

North Carolina and Gonzaga will both be solid opportunities for the Cats to boost their NET ranking.
