Kentucky finds a new spot in the AP Poll
The Kentucky Wildcats are still a top ten team despite the loss overtime loss to Texas A&M.
Heading into this game, Kentucky's ability to clean up the glass was a question mark. Texas A&M lived on the offensive glass, grabbing 25 offensive rebounds, which led to 21 second-chance points. Kentucky's defense was exposed in this game as Tyrece Radford was able to get to the rim with ease multiple times, leading to 28 points.
In the latest edition of the AP Poll, Kentucky dropped a few spots from sixth to eighth. Kentucky is just behind Tennessee (6th) and just ahead of the Auburn Tigers (13th). Typically, the AP Poll voters are hard on Kentucky for a loss, but only moving down two spots after the loss to Texas A&M seems fair for how the week shook out across college basketball. If Kentucky can stack a few wins together this week, they will have a chance to move back up the rankings.
John Calipari had this to say about Texas A&M grabbing offensive rebounds all day against the Wildcats, "We're getting better. It's hard. They put three guys, and they're standing there pushing and shoving and tipping and doing these things. You've got to be alert. There were three or four where we just let them, no one, the guy was standing there next to him, but he didn't do anything. Those are lessons for these guys. In a game like this, one or two possessions matter."
This loss obviously wasn't great for Kentucky but looking at both the AP Poll and NET Rankings, the metrics don't believe it will cost the Wildcats all that much.
