Kentucky Once Again Receiving Votes in AP Poll

The Wildcats earned 12 votes in the new Associated Press Poll.

Kentucky entered the 2022-23 season ranked as the No. 4 team in the nation. From then on, it was a slow decline out of the rankings.

The Cats first fell out of the rankings after their 89-75 loss at Missouri on Dec. 28. Since then, it's been solely a matter of whether or not they received votes.

That wasn't the case last week, but a tough road win over Mississippi State and home trouncing of then-10th-ranked Tennessee have gotten John Calipari's group some nods from Associated Press voters entering the next-to-last week of the regular season.

Kentucky received 12 votes in the new poll, effectively placing it 30th in the rankings. Just three teams from the Southeastern Conference are in the updated Top 25:

  • No. 2 Alabama
  • No. 11 Tennessee
  • No. 25 Texas A&M

The Wildcats are the first of three SEC teams earning votes, joined by Arkansas (6) and Missouri (3).

Overall, UK has a 3-5 record against other teams that received at least one vote. Its upcoming week of games features another pair of Quadrant 1 opportunities, as it will take on Florida in Gainesville, then host the struggling Auburn Tigers — a team that's teetering uncomfortably closer towards the NCAA Tournament bubble.
