2024 4-Star Center Somto Cyril Commits to Kentucky

Cyril is expected to not reclassify to 2023.

Kentucky basketball's offseason continues to swing in a positive trajectory.

On Wednesday, 247Sports' Travis Branham announced that 4-star center Somto Cyril has committed to Kentucky, becoming coach John Calipari's first addition to the 2024 recruiting class.

Rumors had swirled that the Enugu, Nigeria native would potentially reclassify to 2023 upon his commitment, but Branham reports that Cyril is currently expected to remain in the '24 class.

Currently the No. 36 player and No. 4 center in the class (On3 Consensus), Cyril took a visit to Lexington in the beginning of June. He played alongside incoming UK point guard Rob Dillingham for Overtime Elite's Cold Hearts. He's nicknamed "Baby Shaq" and clearly possesses the physical presence to play college basketball in 2023. He took an unofficial visit to UK back in October 2021.

Cyril had also taken visits to Cincinnati, Indiana and Providence. While he likely won't be on campus in Lexington until next season, he follows 3-stars Jordan Burks and Joey Hart, as well as West Virginia senior forward transfer Tre Mitchell to join the Cats during June.

Calipari now has a blue-chip center in his back pocket for the 2024-25 season, barring a late reclassification.
