John Calipari Continuing Recruiting Efforts, Visits 4-Star Guards Ahmad Nowell, Billy Richmond
Kentucky basketball is yet to connect on a commit for the class of 2024, and there are only a few big names left on the board that the Wildcats seemingly have a shot at recruiting.
Over the past couple of months, a set few names have made the rounds when talking about potentially committing to UK. With no strong leads, though, head coach John Calipari and his staff have started to make the rounds.
Over the weekend, Calipari and assistants Orlando Antigua and Chin Coleman were in for a pair of top-three players in the class, heading to Indiana to see the No. 1 big man in the class Flory Bidunga, then down to Texas to see shooting guard Tre Johnson, the consensus top player in the class.
Kentucky isn't considered the favorites in either of those recruiting battles, but a couple more names plopped on the radar of Big Blue Nation on Monday, both of whom already have connections to the incoming 2023 class.
First up was point guard Ahmad Nowell, a 4-star point guard that currently plays for Imhotep Charter in Philadelphia, the same school as incoming 5-star forward Justin Edwards. Nowell is the No. 47 player and No. 8 PG in the 2024 class, per the On3 Consensus.
The 6-foot-2, 185-pounder currently holds offers from Memphis, Auburn, Tennessee, Kansas, St. John's and UConn. He has taken an official visit to Tennessee, which came back on Feb. 27. Nowell is from Germantown, Tenn., right outside of Memphis.
The connection is clear to see, just like it is with 4-star shooting guard Billy Richmond, whom Calipari and Co. then went to check in on at Camden (N.J.), according to a report from Kentucky Sports Radio's Jack Pilgrim.
Richmond was offered by UK on New Year's Day and had previously been seen by Calipari when Camden came down to Frankfort, Ky. to play alongside Camden teammates and incoming Wildcats D.J. Wagner and Aaron Bradshaw.
Richmond is listed as the No. 80 player and No. 19 SG in the class, and currently holds offers from Memphis, Mississippi State, Seton Hall, Kansas State and UK. He took an unofficial visit to Lexington on Feb. 25.
The links for each prospect, while obvious, could do some good for the Wildcats as recruiting season kicks into full gear heading towards the summer.
