Louisville Officially Announces Addition of JUCO Guard Koron Davis
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville men's basketball program has officially added JUCO prospect Koron Davis, the program announced Thursday.
The combo guard is the fourth player to officially sign with Louisville this week. Illinois transfer guard Skyy Clark and 2023 guard/forward Trentyn Flowers both signed with the Cardinals on Wednesday, which marked the first day of the regular signing period, and 2023 center Dennis Evans signed earlier today. All six of Louisville's currently committed newcomers have now officially signed with the Cards.
"Koron is a multidimensional talent that can be effective in positions 1-3," head coach Kenny Payne said in a release "He has a knack for scoring at all three levels while also being able to rebound and make plays for teammates at a high level. He possesses length and athleticism suitable for the ACC."
Davis' recruitment and subsequent commitment to Louisville progressed extremely quickly. He was offered a scholarship by Payne and his staff on Jan. 16, and committed to the Cardinals just 10 days later. Associate head coach Danny Manning was his lead recruiter.
The 6-foot-7 guard might not be a nationally-ranked JUCO prospect, but he has proven himself to be a prolific scorer and playmaker. During his sophomore season at LA Southwest, Davis averaged 23.8 points, 6.7 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game, with his scoring mark ranking third in the California Community College Athletic Association. He also shot 48.1 percent from the field, 33.0 percent on three-point attempts and 81.4 percent at the free throw line.
The Gary, Ind. native spent his freshman season with Paris (Tex.) Community College, where he averaged 15.7 points and 6.6 rebounds per game, getting named Second-Team All-Region for his efforts. He played his high school ball at Gary (Ind.) Bowman Academy.
Louisville went just 4-28 this past season in their first year under Payne, and roster management has been in full swing since the end of their season. Louisville has seen seven players enter the transfer portal, including leading scorer El Ellis. Only Mike James, J.J. Traynor, Brandon Huntley-Hatfield and Emmanuel Okorafor are returning.
Conversely, Payne and his staff have been hard at work attempting to bring in fresh talent for next season. Louisville landed Flowers, Clark, and Evans all within the span of a week following the end of their season, and they signed top-70 wings Kaleb Glenn and Curtis Williams Jr. during last November's early signing period.
Louisville's five-man recruiting 2023 class, which is the first full cycle for Payne, ranks as the No. 5 class in the nation according to 247Sports. Despite having just one transfer commitment in Clark, their transfer class comes in at No. 26 in the nation also by 247Sports.
