Report: Louisville Showing Interest in Gonzaga Transfer Hunter Sallis

The former five-star prospect spent two years with the Bulldogs.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville men's basketball program has reached to yet another target in the transfer portal.

The Cardinals are one of multiple schools that have shown interest in former Gonzaga guard Hunter Sallis since he entered the portal last Friday, according to CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein.

The 6-foot-5, 180-pound combo guard spend two years in Spokane with the Bulldogs exclusively in a reserve role. This past season, he played in all 37 games, logging 4.5 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.4 assists over 16.7 minutes per game. He also shot 46.5 percent from the field and 24.2 percent on three-point attempts.

As a true freshman for the 2021-22 season, the Omaha, Neb. native put up comparable numbers, averaging 4.3 points, 2.0 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game in 32 appearances off the bench.

Sallis came to a Gonzaga as a highly-touted five-star prospect coming out of high school. He was ranked as the No. 10 player in the Class of 2021 according to 247Sports' in-house rankings, and was the Bulldogs' third-highest ranked signee of the modern recruiting era according to the 247Sports Composite.

Louisville has been busy this offseason when it comes to reaching out to transfer portal targets. As of this writing, they have publicly contacted nine players in the portal, mostly guards.

Since the end of their season, where they went just 4-28 under first year head coach Kenny Payne, roster management has been in full swing for the Cardinals. Louisville has seen seven players enter the transfer portal, including leading scorer El Ellis. The only scholarship players in line to return are Mike James, J.J. Traynor, Brandon Huntley-Hatfield and Emmanuel Okorafor.

Conversely, Payne and his staff have been hard at work behind the scenes attempting to bring in fresh talent for next season. Last month, the Cardinals landed former Illinois guard Skyy Clark, five-star 2023 center Dennis Evans and five-star 2023 reclass wing Trentyn Flowers. Louisville is also set to welcome top-70 wings Kaleb Glenn and Curtis Williams Jr., plus JUCO guard Koron Davis as part of their 2023 signing class.
