LSU Baseball: Paul Skenes Promoted to Double-A by Pirates

Skenes went two innings on Sunday in Single-A action, elevated once again.

Another LSU Tiger is inching closer to The Show with Paul Skenes being promoted to Double-A ball on Monday.

The top overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft has allowed just one hit without giving up a walk over four scoreless innings as a pro to this point.

Skenes was clocked at over 98 mph four times in his latest showing while touching 98.8 mph on his 25th pitch of the day. He threw a total of 28 pitches with 19 strikes.

After short stints in Single-A, both Dylan Crews and Skenes have been elevated to Double-A as their rise through the minor leagues continues.

The No. 1 and No. 2 overall picks, respectfully, in the 2023 MLB Draft have shown no signs of slowing down after beginning their professional careers just weeks ago.

Crews joins the Harrisburg Senators where they will begin their next series on Tuesday. The 21-year-old has the chance to make his debut and continue his hot start at the plate.

The former Tiger recorded 22 hits, 16 runs, five home runs, 24 RBI and a 1.068 OPS in two weeks during his Single-A showing.

For Skenes, he joins the Altoona Curve as his next step towards making it to the major leagues.

The Pirates remain cautious with Skenes' pitch count, but when on the mound, he's been near flawless.
