Dick Vitale Jokes Amid Miami Hurricanes Hoops Sweet 16 Run

Legendary basketball analyst applauds UM's men's and women's teams after back-to-back wins over Indiana

The storylines have all but written themselves when it comes to the parody of Miami men's and women's basketball teams each defeating Indiana en route to a Sweet 16 berth.

Miami is one of four programs to have both basketball teams still alive in the Big Dance, but the March Madness element shows up even more when one zooms out with historical context. ESPN Stats & Info says the same matchup and the same result like this scenario has only happened 10 times ever, but the same result with one program winning out over the other in the same round has only happened twice before.

One of ESPN's best, Dick Vitale, took the comedic route when capturing the climb of both Hurricane programs.

"Hey, I thought Miami was a football school," Vitale posted via social media.

Vitale has been around the game for some seven decades at this point, but the 83 year-old stays sharp on social media. Later in the week he also singled out men's star and ACC Player of the Year Isaiah Wong, who showed up big in the Indiana upset with 27 points to lead all scorers. Norchad Omier also got a personal shout.

"Miami has a star in @CanesCoachL has a PTPer (prime-time player) in ISAIAH WONG," Vitale posted Wednesday morning. "A difference maker could be the inside aggressive Norchad Omier."

The men's squad now moves on to face top-seeded Houston while the women take on No. 4 seed Villanova, with each matchup set for Friday evening.
