Halftime: UConn Leads Miami in Final Four, 37-24
Miami kicked off its first Final Four run right where it wanted to be.
Few picked the program at any critical stage of the tournament and much was the same in Saturday night’s Final Four contest against UConn, where not a single ESPN analyst predicted a Hurricane victory.
The favorites were at full strength, too, with sharpshooter Jordan Hawkins able to give it a go despite a stomach bug that caused him to miss the final true practice of the week. He would break the ice on UConn’s first possession from deep.
Miami would need several possessions before seeing its first shot fall, courtesy of Jordan Miller’s drive to the cup to cut the Husky run of nine straight points to open up the semifinal. It would lead for the bulk of the first 20 minutes with solid cushion en route to a 34-24 halftime advantage.
As both teams settled in, the Miami defense worked to spark its offense against the bigger UConn roster. It would rally to tie the game at 16 with just over eight minutes to play before the break, via a Nijel Pack three-point bucket.
Adama Sanogo’s prescence inside for UConn has impacted both ends of the floor, with easy field goals near the rim while protecting it to alter Miami shots on the other end. He even flashed two early three-pointers to lead all scorers with 13 points. Miller leads Miami with 7 points.
Miami’s 24 points is the lowest halftime mark of the season, per the CBS broadcast.
