In this story:

The Miami Hurricanes take on the Miami of Ohio RedHawks to open their college football seasons. It’s expected to be a Canes victory, with numerous betting lines placing Miami as a 17 point favorite over their namesake from the Midwest.

Do not tell that to RedHawks signal caller Brett Gabbert, however. Three days ago, he made a rather surprising proclamation.

During a Miami of Ohio press conference, he was asked, “The real Miami is where?” Gabbert was quick to answer, “Oxford, Ohio.”

Following up on the answer from Gabbert, another question came Gabbert's way, “Because you’re around longer?” Gabbert, once again, did not mince words.

“Nah, I just think uh, I think we’ll show them on Sep. 1.”

There's been ample time to retract the statement, say it was a joke, or something of the like. Nope. Gabbert is apparently sticking to his statement.

Here’s the actual clip via a Twitter post:

Is there some hyperbole with the bold prediction from Gabbert? Probably. Still, it’s an interesting statement before a season opener on the road.

It’s also bulletin board material for players at a school called “Miami” in Coral Gables, Fla. That information is for Gabbert in case he wants to know where the real Miami can be found.

Now it’s up to the Hurricanes defense to shut up Gabbert. Playing well, not talking, defines dominance.

Game time is set for the Hurricanes to host the RedHawks this Friday at 7 p.m. and can be watched on ACC Network.
