ESPN Matchup Predictor Picks Miami Over Rutgers

Hurricanes are favored to defeat the Scarlet Knights
In this story:

For Thursday's Miami Hurricanes versus Rutgers Scarlet Knights Pinstripe Bowl, the ESPN Matchup Predictor likes the Canes. It's going to probably be an old-fashioned slugfest with both teams catering to their rushing attacks for much of the 2023 season. There's also a key individual passing game matchup that is detailed here:

Miami vs Rutgers: Three Excellent Matchups That Determine The Winner

Miami will be showcasing many new faces or at least players that will see increased roles. There will be multiple new starters along the offensive line and the wide receiver corps will be without Colbie Young as he's transferring to the Georgia Bulldogs.

On defense, the Hurricanes are also going to be without defensive tackle Leonard Taylor III, as well as both starting safeties Kamren Kinchens and James Williams.

Despite Miami losing key components on each side of the football, the ESPN Predictor Machine has the Canes as a 66.5% favorite to Rutgers at 33.5%.

Look for several of Miami's 2023 and 2024 recruits to be showcased in this game. In particular, look for running back Mark Fletcher, Jr. to be a key cog for Miami.

Of course, there's also the curiosity about the starting quarterback being Jacurri Brown. Going to be interesting to see how the Hurricanes utilize the versatile skills of the former Valdosta (Ga.) Lowndes County recruit.
