Note: Due to the inclement weather and subse quent flooding in Broward County, it will be important for fans traveling to the Miami spring game to consistently check traffic patterns before and after its conclusion.

Today’s game details will be found below, and here are a few of the storylines heading into the Miami spring game.

  • Quarterback Tyler Van Dyke will be back in action after being hurt twice last season.
  • Even with Van Dyke playing tonight, look for backup quarterbacks Jacurri Brown and Emory Williams to gain a bulk of the reps. That’s what spring games are for, helping the team grow overall through actual playing time.
  • While Henry Parrish should see action, look for Don Chaney, as well as freshmen Chris Johnson and Mark Fletcher, to get plenty of reps tonight.
  • Wide receiver Xavier Restrepo has been lauded for his performance this spring. Like Van Dyke, good news for the Canes that he’s back after missing significant time last season due to injury. There will be several other wide receivers competing for playing time so the wide receiver group will be fun to watch.
  • The offensive line will have two transfers – Javion Cohen (Alabama) and Matt Lee (UCF) – in the starting lineup. Look for multiple freshmen to be playing significant time along the offensive line as well, including Francisco Mauigoa, Samson Okunlola, and Antonio Tripp.
  • The tight end position has been banged up throughout spring ball, so it will be another spot where freshmen like Jackson Carver and Riley Williams can make some plays.
  • The defensive line will be a rotation of experienced players and some young guys as well. Mario Cristobal recently singled out veteran Chatz Williams at defensive end, and there’s been several other defensive lineman given praise including true freshman Rueben Bain.
  • Corey Flagg returns at inside linebacker, and so does Wesley Bissainthe. Those two will be key cogs for the Canes this season and they will be competing and playing with Washington State transfer Francisco Mauigoa, who’s impressed this spring and could start this fall.
  • The secondary saw numerous departures to the NFL Draft (Tyrique Stevenson) and the Transfer Portal. It’s hard to say which defensive backs will play and shine the most, but Iowa transfer Terry Roberts was a key addition when he announced for Miami. Davonte Brown, another transfer from UCF, is one to watch as well. Daryl Porter will be back in the lineup, and it’s uncertain how much, if at all, star safeties Kamren Kinchens and James Williams will play after wearing non-contact jerseys during recent spring practices. Watch for freshman safety Kaleb Spencer. He’s an impressive athlete with good size based on seeing him during a UM practice.
