Miami vs Notre Dame Game Canceled

The Miami Hurricanes and Notre Dame Fighting Irish played great games over the years. The 1988, 1989 and 1990 contests were even considered epic because of the amount of talent that was on the gridiron, and the high-stakes that were in place with both teams battling for national titles.
Players like Miami's Craig Erickson (QB), Rob Chudzinski (TE), Cleveland Gary (RB), Russell Maryland (DT), Cortez Kennedy (DT), Randy Shannon (LB) and Bubba McDowell (S), went up against Notre Dame's Tony Rice (QB), Derek Brown (TE), Ricky Watters (RB), Raghib "Rocket" Ismail (WR/RB), Chris Zorich (NG), Michael Stonebreaker (LB) and Pat Terrell (S).
It was a collection of future National Football League talent that few other college football teams could even remotely come close to matching. The series ended in 1990, and the next time the two teams would meet was a Fighting Irish 33-17 win from the 2010 Sun Bowl. The teams, overall, met just four times since 1990.
The last time the Canes and Irish played stemmed from a 2017 Miami drubbing of Notre Dame, 41-8. The next chance to play was supposed to be in South Bend come the 2024 season, but that’s no longer the case.
Instead, the next time the two storied programs get on the gridiron will be at Hard Rock Stadium in 2025. There could be a couple of bonuses for that actually being the case, and for each team, too.
The Canes will probably lose quarterback Tyler Van Dyke to the 2024 NFL Draft. Notre Dame, meanwhile, will lose 6th-year signal caller and Wake Forest Transfer Sam Hartman to the NFL Draft as well.
It’s not that one or both teams cannot have great squads in 2024. That’s not the case. It’s simply the point that with how Miami and Notre Dame have both been recruiting under the direction of head coaches Mario Cristobal and Marcus Freeman, combined with both teams quite possibly having returning starters at the all-important quarterback position in 2025, the game at Hard Rock could feature two top 10 teams once again.
That game has a great chance to be awesome! For now, Canes and Irish fans will have to wait a bit longer for the rivalry to renew. It should be well worth the wait, however.
