Elija Lofton Signs With the Miami Hurricanes!
The Miami Hurricanes need help at tight end and Elija Lofton is a tremendously versatile player at that position. Do not be surprised to see him line up in several different positions for the Canes like H-back, flex tight end, and of course a traditional in-line tight end position as well.
Elija Lofton
Size: 6-foot-1, 215 pounds
Position: Tight End
High School: Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gormon
Recruitment: A truly national recruitment, Lofton's options beyond Miami included Texas, Arizona State, Colorado, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, UCLA, Washington, California, and many more schools.
Strengths: Where will Lofton line up on the next play? He's been a key player for national power Bishop Gormon as a flex tight end, fullback, H-Back, and traditional tight end.
Lofton does a tremendous job of blocking during screen plays or within the run game. When he receives the football, Lofton's quickness and penchant for creating yards after contact make him one of the nation's most unique playmakers.
Area to Improve: Adding 10 to 15 pounds of muscle is a good idea. It will help him with run blocking at the Power 5 level.
From the 2024 Miami Commitments and Evaluations page, here’s what AllHurricanes wrote about Lofton:
Tremendous hands were displayed on film that helped him win 50-50 balls. Lofton also ran over and around defenders after running the football or catching it. When he was at his best, quite often though, it's when he blocked for the running backs and receivers. Lofton will be a player who can find a role with Miami's offense as a freshman.
Look for Lofton to compete for playing time as a freshman for the Hurricanes. His versatility makes him a weapon.
