Miami's Biggest Impacts From the Transfer Portal
Lee bulldozed his way through 300-plus-pound defensive tackles numerous times, yeah, that helped him make his way onto this list as well. There’s that one key ingredient that allowed him to rise more than any other, however.
Intelligence. Lee’s ability to make line calls and then execute time and time again made him an impact player for the Knights. Without his efforts, UCF’s quarterbacks would have been hit and sacked far more often.
Look for Lee to help Miami reduce its 2023 sacks totals and help keep Tyler Van Dyke upright and completing touchdown passes.
Francisco Mauigoa, Linebacker - Washington State
Much like Lee, Mauigoa has the instincts and smarts to make an impact. Miami’s depth at inside linebacker needed an influx of talent as well. Being able to get Mauigoa out of the Transfer Portal and head across the country was a coup for the Miami staff.
Leadership, proven ability, and the wherewithal to make critical plays like his interception return for a touchdown against Oregon, those were some of the qualities Miami gained with adding Mauigoa to the depth chart. He brought another physical trait, too.
Just sheer size. Miami needed some bigger bodies at inside linebacker. Mauigoa’s ability to be a thumper in the middle of the defense will be great for the Hurricanes.
There will be other Canes that came to Coral Gables via the Transfer Portal that make an impact as well. Running Back Ajay Allen was a big get for the Canes after he played for the Nebraska Cornhuskers, just as one other example, among several possible candidates.
Overall, look for Miami to truly benefit from its Transfer Portal recruiting efforts.
