In this story:

One of the most important recruitments for Miami to sign would be defensive tackle Aydin Breland. The 6-foot-4 and 300-plus-pound anchor in the middle would be a great piece to play with Miami’s 2023 defensive end haul.

That list of three includes Jayden Wayne, Collins Acheampong and Rueben Bain, Jr., each a national recruit in his own right. Adding more run-stopping ability, as well as a defensive tackle that can break through the middle of the offensive line and sack the quarterback, that’s a game-changer.

He's trying to narrow down his schools and he's had Mario Cristobal and the Hurricanes high up the list for quite some time. Breland officially visited the Canes on June 9, and he also trekked to Coral Gables in March and April. The competition will be still, however, to land the No. 6 overall player in the 247 rankings.

Breland has also officially visited Oregon, Texas A&M, and Georgia, and other programs are still giving chase as well. For what it’s worth, Rivals recruiting director Adam Gorney likes where the Canes sit in Breland’s recruitment.

Gorney lives outside Los Angeles and has a pulse of what’s happening with the Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei 5-star defensive tackle. That’s a good sign for the Canes.

As for what else Miami can do to close the gap, it’s simple. Miami needs to come out of the gate charging during the 2023 regular season. Nothing catches a recruit’s attention like winning football games.

As we dig deeper into Miami’s fall camp, keep in mind that recruiting never stops. That’s especially true for the truly elite players like Breland.
