Three Takeaways: Judd Anderson’s Senior Film
The 2024 Miami Hurricanes recruiting class is stacked with talent. Judd Anderson is the quarterback who continues to promote Miami via social media, and he also had a really good senior season.
The Gray (Ga.) Warner Robins quarterback is a traditional pocket passer and has the height and frame Power 5 college programs look for. Here are his statistics from the 2023 season, per Anderson’s X account:
Here are the three takeaways for the 6-foot-7 and 220-pound senior quarterback. This assessment comes after seeing his junior film, seeing him live during the Georgia Elite 11, and now reflecting on Anderson’s senior film.
1) Accuracy is improved.
Here's a major part of why Anderson's accuracy is trending in the right direction. The footwork for Anderson is more consistent. A similar stride as he begins his motion, throw after throw.
It’s especially noticeable when a person watches his passes over the middle. Those can be tight windows and Anderson did quite well. It’s not just from the pocket either.
Anderson’s ability to throw on the run is something to watch. Anderson's awareness of when to turn his hips and make the pivot to throw is likely part of the reason he's better on the run. Overall, experience likely plays a factor here as well. Finally, a tip of the cap to the Warner Robins coaching staff as it undoubtedly is a part of Anderson's progress in this area.
2) Anderson’s deep ball stands out.
He’s never been afraid to launch a pass; now Anderson knows which level to throw a deep ball. Sometimes it’s a bullet that’s on a line because he’s trying to beat the safety to the spot, and that’s a Level 1 pass.
He arches the football just over the linebackers on a post sometimes, and that’s a Level 2 pass. Those true bombs are even a high-arching throw that provides his receiver a chance to wall off the defensive back and make a catch. That’s the Level 3 pass.
No matter the throw that’s needed, Anderson is using his intelligence before letting the football go. That’s the most important thing to note here.
3) Do not discount Anderson as a runner.
His ability to gut a defense with a run – whether designed or on the fly – is something that happens often. Anderson’s speed is also underrated. He can make plays and run by defenders despite his 6-foot-7 frame.
He even runs the run-pass-option play and pulls it for some big gains. During his Miami career, Anderson’s legs are going to come in handy.
