Deryc Plazz Announces for Miami Hurricanes!
With the addition of Deryc Plazz, the Miami Hurricanes offensive line haul stands at two, and the overall 2024 recruiting class now sits with 16 verbal commitments in total.
The Jacksonville (Fla.) Andrew Jackson offensive lineman is a player that Miami offensive line coach Alex Mirabal wants and for good reason. The ability to move in space, yet still be a traditional power run blocker, makes Plazz an attractive option for the Canes and numerous other prospects.
At one point, North Carolina State might have been the school Plazz would have selected. Miami’s official visit and continued efforts did make a difference. Plazz took trips to Penn State (June 2), Miami (June 16) and North Carolina State (June 23) before his decision today.
Here’s where Plazz specifically sits within the national recruiting rankings as a 3-star recruit, in order of national, position and state:
Rivals
: Unranked, 56 and 90
On3
: Unranked, 106, and 176
247
: Unranked, 73, and 111
ESPN
: Unranked, 39, and 95
One can view his rankings in many ways, but being from Jacksonville and not a city like Orlando or Miami did not do Plazz any favors with the recruiting rankings. Players from that area are not generally scouted quite as much or often as the programs residing in Central and South Florida cities and towns.
More importantly, this is a player that the Canes want on the roster because he can eventually turn into a big-time player. Plazz is adding good weight and looks to be growing into his frame nicely, judging by sophomore and junior footage.
Look for Plazz to be a player that Mirabal moves around to different spots along the offensive line. He’s athletic and powerful enough to be an interior player, yet agile enough to be on the edge at offensive tackle.
Welcome to The U young Mr. Plazz!
