Justin Scott to Ohio State: Will That End His Recruitment?
The number of twists and turns with the Justin Scott recruiting saga cannot be counted on two hands. It’s been all over the map. While reportedly a great young man, he’s certainly changed his mind, well, several times.
He's roughly 17-years old. Par for the course. Here’s a rundown of what’s happened in Scott's recruitment, and ultimately what to expect.
The ultra-talented 6-foot-5 and 310-pound defensive tackle was recruited nationally for a reason. All the physical tools, size, and aggressive nature needed to be a big-time defensive lineman at the Power 5 level.
As for the Miami Hurricanes, they certainly placed their best foot forward with the Scott recruitment. In fact, Miami hosted Scott three different times this year including an official visit.
Georgia, Notre Dame, and Michigan were all very much in the mix as well. Then Scott took a recent trip to Ohio State.
Bam!
Will that be the end of the recruitment for the Chicago (Ill.) St. Ignatius 5-star prospect? Based on how the first six months of 2023 went with Scott’s recruitment, that would be a big no.
Go by what one does, not what one says.
He was close to committing to Notre Dame in January. Georgia jumped into the mix and that changed Scott’s original plan.
The Bulldogs faded after a while. Michigan was in that hunt for a minute, and had kind of stuck around, on and off with Scott as a leader or close to his leader. There’s Miami, the team most believed would gain a commitment from Scott this summer.
That quickly dissipated out of thin air, for whatever the reason. Some believe it was distance, but it’s hard to say.
Most recently, it was supposed to be Michigan back on top. Then, out of the blue, it’s the Ohio State commitment that was just announced. So, what happens now?
Point blank, this recruitment is absolutely not over. Again, what one does and not what one says is what folks should follow. It would be surprising, based on recent history with Scott, if he does not still take more visits.
Finally, everyone will know where Scott will play college football when he signs his letter of intent. Until then, while he’s technically committed to Ohio State, it would be wise to consider him a lean to the Buckeyes more than locked in with them.
