Miami hosting Elijah Melendez for an unofficial visit
In this story:

The Miami Hurricanes are not only going hard after 2024 recruits, but the 2025 recruiting class is a prime focus as well.

One of the key targets for the Canes would be Kissimmee (Fla.) Osceola linebacker Elijah Melendez, as he continues to make headlines in the 2025 recruiting class. He is the #79 player in the nation according to Rivals, as well as being the second-ranked inside linebacker.

247 has him as the 23rd linebacker, On3 ranks him 9th, and ESPN places him at 4th in the nation. These rankings are a testament to Melendez's exceptional skills, making the 6-foot-2 and 225-pound linebacker one of the most sought-after prospects in the upcoming recruiting class.

Here are some of the schools that made an offer to him: Miami, Texas A&M, Auburn, Ohio State, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, and Penn State.

Known for his athleticism, hard-hitting style, and sideline-to-sideline speed, Melendez is not only a force in run defense but also excels in coverage.

I had the opportunity to speak with Melendez ahead of his unofficial visit to the University of Miami, where he is expected to make a lasting impression on the coaching staff and explore the possibilities of joining the Hurricanes. When asked about his excitement for the visit, Melendez couldn't hide his enthusiasm, stating, "I love Miami! Miami is very high on my list."

Melendez also shared insights from an earlier visit, particularly during the Texas A&M game, shedding light on his admiration for the dynamic play of Miami’s standout linebacker, Kiko Mauigoa. Melendez expressed his admiration for Mauigoa's style of play, stating, "I really watched number 51 all game, Kiko Mauigoa. I liked how they used him, they blitzed him a lot with him, lots of chances to make big hits and make big plays."

One aspect stands out among the crucial factors influencing his college decision—the bond he shares with Miami's linebacker coach, Derek Nicholson. In a recent interview, Melendez didn't hold back his enthusiasm, describing their relationship as nothing short of amazing.

When asked about his connection with Coach Nicholson, Melendez exclaimed, "It's amazing! He's really cool, he's a dawg!" This candid endorsement speaks volumes about the positive rapport between the rising star linebacker and the Miami coaching staff.

Soon Melendez will reveal his commitment. With Miami being a top contender for his commitment, the Hurricanes' faithful are hopeful Melendez's visit will solidify their chances of landing this exceptional talent.

Coach Nicholson could prove to be a decisive factor. The prospect of playing for a coach who understands and resonates with his playing style and mentality adds an extra layer of appeal for the University of Miami.
