Congratulations to future Miami Hurricanes quarterback Luke Nickel for helping lead his team to a 31-21 Georgia 7A state title!

Here are video highlights that came from the game, beginning with Nickel connecting with wide receiver Marc Essley II for a touchdown that put the Eagles in the lead for good 17-14 with 5:34 remaining in the third quarter:

Nickel finished the evening with 201 yards and a touchdown through the air. Nickel also rushed for a score (both plays in the video above). Here's what's fantastic about Milton's run overall, once again, led by Nickel.

Milton won the biggest Georgia classification at the 7A level and did so in impressive fashion. It was an underdog in two of its last three games, plus had to win at Grayson just to get to the Georgia State Title Game. According to Max Preps, traditional power Colquitt County was ranked ahead of Milton at #3, and the #1 team in the state would be now state runner-up Walton. Milton was #4 in Georgia according to the Dec. 10 rankings.

The loss for Walton was its first of the year. After leading 14-7 at halftime, Walton's offense struggled to move the football against a staunch Milton defense, and that would be when Nickel and the Milton offense made the most of their opportunities. Nickel and his teammates were a great example of overcoming adversity and not listening to the naysayers.

For Miami fans, now having seen Nickel lead his team to a state title and doing so against elite competition, that's a great sign for the future Canes signal caller. The class of 2025 quarterback will now attempt to lead his team to back-to-back state titles in 2024.
