Miami Hurricanes Quarterback Commit Luke Nickel Turned Heads At Battle 7v7

The Class of 2025 standout performed exceptionally well at the premiere event.

The future looks bright for the Miami Hurricanes at quarterback.

The Hurricanes have a verbal commitment from Milton HS (Georgia) standout Luke Nickel. He led his high school team to a state championship at a junior in 2023. Nickel is in the Sunshine State this weekend competing at Battle 7v7 Miami.

Nickel's 7 on 7 team is coached by former Heisman Trophy winner and NFL star, Cam Newton. Nickel was described to me as clearly the best quarterback performer at Battle.

I sat down with high school football analyst Larry Blustein on my Locked On Canes podcast for a Luke Nickel breakdown:

"I was so impressed with Nickel," Blustein said. "I watched him last year and I've watched him on field. In just a short seven or eight months, he's emerged as a top five quarterback in the entire country. He's a big time kid. He makes all the throws and he has good size."

Nickel is currently listed at 6-2, 205 lbs.

247Sports and On3 have him rated as a 3-Star prospect, while Rivals considers him a 4-Star.

Miami's staff will have to keep working hard to keep Nickel committed through national signing day in December. While Nickel absolutely loves Miami, the interest level from Georgia and other SEC programs is increasing after his strong junior season.

Miami is building solid, young foundations in their quarterback room. Beyond redshirt senior transfer Cam Ward, Miami's other four scholarship quarterbacks have multiple years of eligibility. Incoming freshman Judd Anderson has all four years, Jacurri Brown and Emory Williams each have three, while Albany transfer Reese Poffenbarger has two years left. There could be some great competitions for QB1 when Nickel arrives in 2025.
