Miami Hurricanes Recruiting: Three Prospects Deciding Soon

Three of the Miami Hurricanes primary recruiting targets should be deciding soon. Here’s the backdrop for each prospect’s recruitment, and the scuttlebutt regarding what’s been happening of late.
No particular order here.
Kamarion Franklin, Defensive Line, Lake Cormorant (Miss.) High School
The ever-changing recruiting saga with Franklin will have an announcement on Saturday, Aug. 19. Ole Miss, Tennessee, Miami and Auburn are the four teams to watch.
Early on, most figured it would be an eventual Ole Miss pledge for Franklin. He lives near Oxford, Miss. That’s probably the least likely landing spot – from the Rebels, Volunteers, Hurricanes and Tigers – for Franklin to select now.
Most expect him to pick Miami or Auburn. Depends on the contact one communicates with to come to a final conclusion. Auburn folks are confident, and some in Coral Gables, Fla. are confident as well.
Franklin is a national recruit with offers galore so he could certainly help either the Canes or Tigers. Cannot teach his natural size and athleticism along the defensive line.
Zaquan Patterson, Safety, Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna
Another difficult prospect to project where he’s going to play his college football. Patterson is a prospect with offers from the nation’s elite, including what appears to be his final five of Michigan, Ohio State, Miami, Auburn, and Florida State.
He’s the last of the 2024 top-notch Chaminade prospects to decide. For many people, they likely believe Patterson is staying home and going to be a Cane. That could still end up happening on National Signing Day.
As of now, however, there’s a good chance he decides to head elsewhere. Do not be surprised if it is Auburn or Florida State that end up with Patterson’s verbal commitment. He does not have a dead-set date to announce, but it’s likely that it happens sooner than later based on what’s been learned from behind the scenes.
Zavier Mincey, Cornerback/Safety, Daytona Beach (Fla.) Mainland
The definition of a long and rangy defensive back, Mincey has been a top recruit for a few years. He could end up at cornerback where he’s often noted that he’d like to play. Some college coaches might like the highly intelligent defender at the back of the defense where he can call plays and make adjustments.
Either way, his offer list is through the roof and there's a good reason for it. Not many defensive backs move like Mincey and at some place between 6-foot-2 and 6-foot-3, 180 pounds. He’s a unique prospect due to his size alone.
For a long time, Florida would be where most would pick him to go, or, Florida State. Now, it’s looking more like the Hurricanes. Like Patterson, there’s no public date for an announcement.
All Hurricanes will have updates whenever they become available.
