Miami Norland Recruiting Notes & Practice Observations
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - For the foreseeable future, one of the most talented high school football teams in the South will be Miami (Fla.) Norland.
Watching the team practice yesterday, it was a blast to see all the talent and hold conversations with several coaches and players. Thanks to each one of them for their insights and perspective.
Norland had top-notch players in the senior and underclassmen ranks, and there’s plenty to discuss, so let’s get to it.
Raynor Andrews - Offensive Tackle - 2024
One of the most physically impressive offensive lineman one will see anywhere in America. 6-foot-5, maybe even 6-foot-6 by now, and he was 312 pounds on Tuesday.
It’s also important to discuss the way that Andrews carried the weight. He’s lean for a big man. Just seeing him walk by was impressive.
After seeing how he moved in space, it was more important to note that Andrews should be considered an athlete first and a football player second because he could do well in several sports if he desired to do so.
He was playing left tackle for the Vikings, and that’s probably where he will one day end up at the Power 5 level as well. With all of his ability, it’s easy to understand why the big fella has been a coveted recruit for several college football programs.
Two of the official visits he mentioned yesterday were USF and Rutgers, and he felt that Florida State and West Virginia were two more schools he was closest to locking in for official visits, too.
As more and more college coaches watch Norland spring practices (Auburn was one of the schools at Norland’s practice), be assured that the stock for Andrews will continue to climb.
Tomauri Johnson - Safety - 2024
One of the tallest and long-armed safeties for the entire 2024 class, Johnson was one of the most impressive players from yesterday’s practice. He’s a physical player with the speed and range to cover a lot of ground.
Johnson has just begun to figure out his official visits, with Toledo being one that he’s likely to take. With all of his natural gifts and love for football, Johnson’s chances to officially visit schools will continue to grow. Hard to say where he’s going to play college football.
Tycoolhill Luman/Tyclean Luman - Defensive Ends - 2024
The twins were still in fantastic shape just like they were during the Orlando Under Armour camp. Getting to know them better, understand that they honestly do not care if they line up inside during a passing down, outside on a run down, nor the scheme that they play in.
They just want to play ball.
Rutgers, Louisville and Pittsburgh will be three official visits for the Lumans barring a change, and they will continue to take time with their recruitments.
It will be interesting to see how hard Florida State, Miami and the other in-state programs push for their services between now and National Signing Day. Several other SEC, ACC and Big 12 programs have been interested so timing with how hard the in-state schools recruit the twins could play a role in where they eventually sign to play.
Ennio Yapoor - Quarterback - 2025
One of the most talented quarterbacks in Florida, the rising junior was his usual self by throwing accurate passes all over the gridiron. Yapoor has not yet earned his due credit, however.
Perhaps he’ll need more exposure this fall to gain that, but he’s a Power 5 football player. Smart, decisive, and confident, Yapoor has beaten teams with his arm and his legs.
His recruitment (and recruiting ranking) should rise over the course of the next season. Again, Yapoor should be considered a Power 5 prospect. He has proven to possess the necessary tools, on and off the gridiron, to be a Power 5 program's signal caller.
Jade Card - Wide Receiver - 2025
This young man’s recruitment will eventually blow up into one that’s a national battle. Mark it down. Already holding offers from Miami, Florida State and several other schools, Card will have a lot of opportunities to choose from at the college level.
A young man with a great personality, Card’s quickness of the line was impressive. He has good top-end speed, and his hands should be considered his best attribute.
Overall, Norland’s deepest position was wide receiver. It’s ridiculous how many talented players they possess for Yapoor to pass the football.
To that end, the individual profiles listed above were but a sampling of some of the players that will one day be on college rosters. There were several other Power 5 players not even discussed as only so many players can be evaluated during one practice.
Looking forward to heading back out to Norland again this fall to gain an even better perspective of what the Vikings have to offer.
