Miami Recruit Carter Smith Talks Visits, Hurricanes and Tigers
As the timelines for college football recruiting sped up during the past few years, the Miami Hurricanes have adjusted well to the pace.
Case in point, Mario Cristobal and his coaching staff have targeted specific 2025 prospects and went ahead and made scholarship offers to some of them. Of note, the quarterback position has seen a handful of offers, including a prospect that hails from Fort Myers (Fla.) Biship Verot.
Carter Smith has been a priority recruit for Miami for quite some time. He’s also already taken a trip down to Coral Gables for an unofficial visit to see Cristobal, offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson and the rest of the Miami coaching staff, on April 6.
It’s not surprising, as his dad is a big UM fan and the younger Smith has grown up watching and learning about the Hurricanes. That’s his dad’s side of the family.
As for mom, that’s LSU. With family in the Bayou State, Smith has also heard about the Tigers while growing up. That’s a big reason why both schools will have Smith at their camps this summer and/or expect him back for a visit this summer (details in the video interview with Smith below). Before being invited to those camps, Smith earned quite the reputation for his play on the gridiron.
He was one of the top underclassmen performers during the Orlando Elite 11 regional after throwing for over 3,000 yards during his sophomore season for Bishop Verot.
Each of the four primary recruiting services has ranked Smith highly, with On3 having placed him as the No. 3 quarterback and 19th best player in the nation overall. Specifically with quarterback rankings, 247 Sports placed Smith at 17, ESPN at 11, and Rivals at 5. With those rankings, as one should expect, lots of college football scholarship offers.
Miami, Florida, Florida State, Florida Atlantic, Ole Miss, North Carolina State, Maryland, Boston College, Purdue, Cincinnati, Virginia Tech, Minnesota and Texas A&M have offered amongst many.
Here’s the interview with Smith, one of the top targets for the Canes for the class of 2025.
