Former Michigan State defensive end Itayvion Brown enters transfer portal
Former Michigan State defensive lineman Itayvion Brown, who was dismissed from the team earlier this week after being arraigned on two gun charges, has entered the transfer portal.
Brown is facing a felony charge for carrying a concealed weapon and a misdemeanor charge for firearms possession while under the influence, stemming from an incident which occurred on March 17.
According to a Michigan State Football program spokesman, Brown was already serving a suspension when the incident occurred, and the redshirt sophomore did not participate with the Spartans at any time during spring practice, which began on March 15.
“Itayvion Brown was dismissed from the Michigan State football team last month and did not participate in spring practice,” the program spokesman said in a written statement. “Previously, he had been indefinitely suspended from team activities beginning in late February.”
Brown is a former four-star recruit out of St. Louis (Mo.) Lutheran North. He spent one season with Minnesota after committing to P.J. Fleck and the Golden Gophers out of high school. He transferred to Michigan State ahead of the 2021 season. Brown appeared in 12 games over the last two seasons with the Spartans and recorded five tackles.
Brown was one of seven Michigan State football players charged with assault following the now-infamous Michigan Stadium tunnel incident, which occurred on Oct. 29 following a 29-7 victory for the Wolverines. Six MSU players, including Brown, were charged with misdemeanor assault.
Defensive back Khary Crump was charged with felonious assault after he was seen on video swinging his helmet at a Michigan player in the tunnel. He remains suspended from the team.
