LOOK: Michigan State Debuts New Helmet Logo vs. Maryland

Michigan State is returning to its roots for Homecoming Week against Maryland...

Michigan State football has embraced the new age nature of uniform combinations over the last several years, and that will continue this weekend when the Spartans host Maryland for Homecoming week.

For the first time in program history, the Spartans will wear the original Michigan Agricultural College logo on their helmets.

The theme this week at Spartan Stadium is "throwback gear", so this is the perfect time for Michigan State to give a nod to it's roots as an agricultural college. It's also a great time for fans in attendance to break out their vintage MSU clothing.

Another thing that makes this helmet unique this season is the lack of any helmet stripe. Michigan State has traditionally worn a stripe for years, and broke in the new 'Greek key' helmet stripe in 2023. In addition to the new helmet, the Spartans will wear green jerseys and green pants, with white socks and cleats.

When Michigan State revealed its new line of uniforms in July, the prevailing thought was MSU would only wear the traditional Spartan head logo this season. This reveal shows that's not the case, and opens the door for the possibility of seeing the 'Script State', 'Gruff Sparty' or 'Block S' logos sometime this season. We're also still waiting for Michigan State to debut the all-new, black "Shadows" uniform.

As I've stated multiple times, I'm a fan of tradition and programs staying true to their traditional logos and color schemes with their uniforms. With that said, Michigan State is one of the few programs who can pull off multiple combinations, and pull off a wide array of logos. While I don't think the 'Michigan Agricultural College' helmet logo should be used often, I think it's a nice addition to the rotation and Homecoming is a perfect time to make it's debut.
