Alabama Head Coach Nick Saban Reportedly Retiring
Alabama head coach/SEC rival Nick Saban is planning to retire according to reports by ESPN's Chris Low.
Since being hired in 2007, he's won six National Championships with the Crimson Tide, including three in the College Football Playoff format. He's also won 11 SEC championships in that span.
Saban's certainly had Mississippi State's number throughout his tenure, as the Bulldogs' only victory over him came in his first season. Since then, Mississippi State has lost 16 straight with only two of those losses coming within single digits.
Saban retires from coaching with a college record of 292-71-1 with 201 of those victories coming at the University of Alabama. He was also the head coach at LSU, where he won a BCS National Championship in 2003, plus Michigan State and Toledo.
The 72-year-old coach was known as a prolific recruiter, having gone 16 consecutive seasons with a top-five recruiting class according to 247Sports.
Saban produced 44 NFL first-round draft picks during his tenure. after no players were drafted at all from the program he initially took over in 2007.
His final win came against No. 1 Georgia in the SEC Championship and his final loss came against eventual National Champion Michigan in the 2024 College Football Playoff Semifinal.
Saban has been recognized for many accomplishments, records, awards and accolades over the years, but perhaps the most impressive statement was that every class recruited by him won a National Championship within their four years.
As the Crimson Tide begins to feverishly search for a new head coach, it will be extremely difficult to fill Nick Saban's shoes.
