Look Who's Coming to Town (Sung to Santa Claus is Coming to Town)

You better look out
And reach for the sky
We're all gonna shout
I'm telling you why.
Kyle McCord is coming to town.

He's bringing a list
To give to Matt Rhule
He might make a switch
To enroll in our school.
Kyle McCord is coming to town!

He used to be a Buckeye
But now he's gonna dream
We hope that he can come here soon
And play for the Scarlet and Cream!

We think he's the guy
Let's show him the way
Just reach for the sky
We want him to stay.
Kyle McCord is coming to town!

(Lyrics by Dan McGlynn - groan...)

Millions of people are anxiously awaiting the arrival of a very popular visitor from the north. Of course that would be Santa Claus.

But Husker fans are waiting for a different kind of visitor from the north - former Ohio State QB Kyle McCord. Many think he could be the key to returning the Husker football program to national prominence.

Accompanying him will be one of his teammates, WR Julian Fleming. Since Nebraska is in dire need of a competent QB and is looking to add an experienced receiver to the Huskers' 2024 commit list, it would seem the pair would be a perfect fit for Nebraska.

Here's what you need to know about Kyle McCord:

1,) He has one year of eligibility remaining.

2.) In his only year ('23) as the Buckeye starter, he went 11-1. His only loss was to Michigan in OSU's last regular-season game.

3.) He was a five-star QB in the '21 recruiting class.

4.) He was also the 24th best recruit and the 3rd best QB that year.

5.) His hometown is Mt. Laurel, NJ, but he played high school football across the Delaware River in Philadelphia.

6.) He was a high school teammate of Marvin Harrison Jr., who finished fourth in this year's Heisman voting.

7.) In '23, McCord's numbers were: passing yards (3,170), completion percentage (65.8). TDs (24) and INTs (6)

8.) McCord also rushed for a minus-65 yards.

9.) Both McCord and Julian Fleming have only one year left to play.

It will be interesting to see how all this plays out. But if NU can get a commitment from McCord, what else is coach Matt Rhule's staff capable of doing?

It's true that McCord is not a runner. That goes a bit contrary to the QB mold Rhule and offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield have previously embraced.

Rhule and his staff seem to have a keen eye for talent (save Jeff Sims). So for now, let's hope McCord and Fleming commit to the Huskers and they both succeed in restoring Nebraska's winning ways.

How 'Bout Them Huskers

Will and I devote time to the Husker volleyball team's pursuit of a national championship. They earned a Final Four spot by downing a pesky Arkansas Razorback team (3-1) in Lincoln on Saturday. We also salute the pay raise for Husker football defensive coordinator Tony White. We review the Husker men's and women's basketball teams. Don't miss this week's episode!
