Shawn Goosenberg Drafted by Chicago White Sox
Northwestern INF Shawn Goosenberg was selected by the Chicago White Sox in the 19th Round (575th overall) in the 2021 Major League Baseball Draft.
During his junior season in 2021, Goosenberg recorded 38 runs and 30 RBI in 36 starts. The 6'1", 195 pound INF had a career day after hitting two home runs and two doubles to drive in five runs on March 28th at Illinois. The California native totaled nine hits and three home runs during the three-game series series against Illinois. Goosenberg also hit a walk-off three-run homer to secure a victory over Michigan State (3/14) and hit two home runs, including a 12th inning, walk-off homer against Rutgers (4.9).
The White Sox will retain the rights to sign Goosenberg until August 1st, or until he elects to return to Northwestern or another four-year college on a full-time basis.
Per Major League Baseball's first-year player draft rules, "a player who is drafted and does not sign with the Club that selected him may be drafted again at a future year's Draft, so long as the player is eligible for that year's Draft. A Club may not select a player again in a subsequent year, unless the player has consented to the re-selection."
