The honors continue to roll in for Hannah Hidalgo. The Notre Dame women’s basketball player became one of just five freshmen to ever be named an Associated Press First Team All-American when the AP made the announcement on Wednesday. Hidalgo leads the nation with 4.6 steals per game. She also leads the ACC and is third in the nation at 23.3 points per game. Her 5.5 assists per game rank third in the conference.

Hidalgo joins Iowa's Caitlin Clark, Stanford's Cameron Brink, UConn's Paige Bueckers, USC's JuJu Watkins, who is also a freshman, on the AP’s First Team for the 2023-2024 season. Bueckers, Watkins, former UConn Maya Moore, and former Oklahoma forward Courtney Paris are the only other freshman to ever garner First Team AP All-American honors.

The freshman from Haddonfield, N.J. is the first Notre Dame player to earn First Team All-America honors since Jewell Loyd in 2015. Hidalgo, Loyd, Kayla McBride, Skylar Diggins and Ruth Riley are the only other Fighting Irish players to ever be included on one of the nation's most prestigious lists.

The All-American recognition adds to the list of postseason honors that Hidalgo has already garnered this year. Her other awards include: ACC Rookie of the Year, ACC Defensive Player of the Year, First Team All-ACC and ACC Tournament MVP. She has also been named to All-American teams by The Athletic, Sporting News, ESPN and USBWA.
