Notre Dame heads into the spring with a pretty deep roster, and there are plenty of starting battles that will take place. One of the more intriguing storylines for the spring - and will be again in the fall - is the veteran players that face a last chance to really make an impact.

There are several reasons that these players are entering a last chance moment. For some they will exhaust their eligibility after the 2024 campaign, while others risk being passed up by younger players. That was a top during the latest Irish Breakdown show. During that segment I break down players on offense and defense that are the most intriguing last chance players.

On offense I discussed quarterback Steve Angeli, offensive linemen Pat Coogan and Rocco Spindler, and briefly mentioned wide receiver Jayden Thomas

The two players I spent the most time on were right tackle Tosh Baker and wide receiver Deion Colzie. Both came to Notre Dame with very high expectations, but neither has lived up to their prep ranking. Baker enters spring as the top right tackle, but he'll need to improve in order to hold onto that job. Colzie is the most intriguing player on this list, at least for the offense. I discuss how similar his first three seasons were to former wide receiver Miles Boykin, and how Colzie shouldn't be given up on yet.

On defense the list isn't quite as long, but there are still some intriguing names to discuss. I spend time talking about junior linebacker Jaylen Sneed and junior defensive tackle Tyson Ford. Both are quite talented, but neither has come close to living up to expectations. If they break out it could mean big things for the Irish defense, but if they don't they'll get passed up.

The most intriguing prospect, at least in my view, is fifth-year senior Jordan Botelho. I spend a lot of time in the show talking about Botelho, and why him finally putting it all together would be so important for thee Notre Dame defense.
